Welcome to My Corner of the Galaxy

I've spent most of my life doing two things: taking care of people and dreaming up worlds that don't exist yet.

By day, I'm a Nurse Practitioner and Director of Nursing in Nebraska — a job that demands everything you have and then some. By night, I write science fiction. Not to escape the real world, but because the real world — the human need for connection, the weight of impossible choices, the question of what we'd sacrifice to survive — is exactly what I want to explore. I just happen to explore it across star systems.

The Ghost Ships Trilogy started as a question: what if the most dangerous thing in the galaxy wasn't a weapon — but a secret? Lieutenant Alastar Kar and the crew of the Zephyr have been living inside that question across two books now, and Book 3, Phantom Armada: Echoes Into the Void, is nearly ready to give them — and you — some answers.

But my writing doesn't stop at space opera. I've written about the grief of losing a beloved pet (Paws in the Heart), about the joy of giving a shelter dog a second chance (Tails of Rescue), about a little girl who climbs a golden ladder into a cloud garden (Elena and the Cloud Garden), and about a young man hiding a dangerous bloodline on a world that has forgotten its past (Beneath the Unspoken, writing as Alane Eakins).

Each one came from a different part of who I am. The nurse who has sat with families in their hardest moments. The animal lover. The dreamer.

This blog is where I'll share updates on what I'm writing, behind-the-scenes glimpses into my process, thoughts on the science and medicine woven through my fiction, and whatever else feels worth saying. I can't promise I'll post every week — my schedule doesn't allow for promises like that — but I can promise that when I do, it'll be worth your time.

Welcome to my corner of the galaxy. I'm glad you found it.
